Thanks for your response. I agree there are some ideologies not worthy of our respect. Hopefully my article didn’t convey a different message. Indeed, I was trying to make the point ideologies are inherently flawed approaches period, though obviously not all equally flawed. As I have said in response to a similar criticism elsewhere, where I would differ is the idea that there are people not worthy of respect. Ideally we should all aspire to treat every individual as though they have dignity and worth, even if their ideas are repugnant to us.

Ideas are fair game, but personal attacks, no matter what cause they are used to advance or defend, are still examples of ad hominem attacks. These are typically used when we are either too lazy to craft a powerful response to an opponent’s argument or just can’t think of one. Nazism and fascism should be fairly easy to tear down without having to call Hitler names. That said, Hitler is such an extreme example I’m not going to lose any sleep if either I or anyone else lets an insult slip into their argument now and then.
